INVITATION
Ellicott City, Maryland —The Burma Research Institute (BRI) invites you to join its 7th Hybrid Congressional Briefing on Burma:
After the Sham Elections – U.S. Opportunities and Challenges
BRI extends its gratitude to Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on State Department and USAID Management, International Operations, and Bilateral International Development, for his generous support of this briefing.
The timing is especially critical. On March 30, the sham parliament begins the process of selecting a new president — and military chief Min Aung Hlaing is widely expected to be named imminently. State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, President U Win Myint, and others remain behind bars. Meanwhile, the military’s airstrikes on civilians and religious sites — including Christian communities — continue to escalate, deepening an already dire humanitarian crisis. The junta remains a direct and ongoing threat to U.S. national interests and security.
The panelists will assess the current situation on the ground and offer concrete recommendations to the Administration and Congress.
